Are some dolls easier to make then others?
All of our dolls come with clear instructions. They are designed for any anyone who would like to make a doll. We have a few that are intended for beginning doll makers such as Teach Your Child to Sew dolls and Cookie. But if you have basic sewing skills, you will be proud to say, “Yes! I made this doll!” As always please call us with more questions.
Carolee Creations is celebrating the 45th Anniversary of SewSweetDolls in 2015 with the launch of our brand new web site. For the first time, our entire collection of patterns will be shown in one place!
Our patterns are known for their clear instructions and easy-to-sew cloth dolls. We originated the template method of doll making, which insures a perfectly shaped doll every time. No guessing where the seams should be. We also created the first four-piece doll head, giving a fully dimensional, easy to create head, and later added a chin dart — still easy, and the most realistic yet!
Our doll patterns run the gamut from simple, 2-sided dolls, to sculpted faces, jointed bodies, and heads that turn. Trixie-Turn-Me, our first swivel head doll, is over 30 years old. She doesn’t look it!
One of the fun things that often happens to me is — someone sees one of my dolls and ‘recognizes’ it. They’ll say, “I know that doll!” “Someone made one for me when I was a child.” We are now on the 3rd generation of doll makers in some families. At least once a week I hear a customer say, “I made dolls for my children and now I want to make them for my grandchildren,” or great grandchildren! Another thing that touches me is when someone says, “Your patterns saved my life,” or “my sanity.” It makes me feel very good to know that they have helped and are loved and appreciated. I know you will enjoy them too.
Our Friends and Family group of patterns are designed in proportion to each other, so you can create a family group to represent your own family. They are fun to make and accessorize. Key holders and Tree ornaments are a good source for things sized just right for these dolls, like musical instruments and sporting goods.
I had so much fun making them and enjoy creating little scenes using them, representing the change of seasons.
I call this picture 'meet the inlaws'. The two old folks in blue sweatshirts have just arrived from Florida, for a visit. The are made from Mom's pattern and Gramps pattern.
